Quit Gambling

What I’m saying may seem very different to your usual way of thinking and it may seem a sideway or radical view of how to go about getting help from the uncontrollable overspending urge.

My first question to a client is “What is missing in your life – if you had it you would not be here?” In other words we look for the gap in your life or any interconnecting issues getting in the way of complete recovery. Be honest.

Patterns of behaviour seem to be very similar from individual to individual. It seems one particular machine is preferred in most cases and frequently one will wait and line up for it. When on that machine one easily drifts into a trance state and generally powerless to be interrupted as though it has all the control which in reality is not the case.

So, to get out of this trance state seems to be the sheer jolt of “no more money” bringing a sense of utter desperate reality.

In hypnosis I am really de-hypnotising, because you have already been hypnotised or mesmerized by that brightly coloured, noisy sparkling object. Does this make the sort of sense to you that it makes to me? I hope it does – in that just talking and rationalising does not work, because your conscious mind knows all of this.

Certain words like should and try also imply failure. Should becomes could and try becomes “I am working on my goal now.

Unless we access the subconscious mind to get to the very core as to why you are falling victim to the machine and giving it all the power I’m sure nobody gets over the addiction.

Once a person comes to me they are admitting a problem, owning it, and wanting a positive result. I explain how the power of imagery is greater than the will power and encourage the person to find their own form of imagery so they can begin to see themselves beating it. Mostly the person goes free for a few weeks, but the long term success lies in the follow up visits reinforcing the need to be completely in control. I emphasize the last sentence very forcefully, because this is where we may look at any issue that would return you to the old habit.

Important too is the rephrasing to now call it your project rather than problem and a new beginning rather than addiction. See it as an opportunity to see me for guidance.

See if I can help in a non-judgmental, confidential open-minded way. Come with expectation and anticipation that it will happen for you. Please be prepared for a few visits to overcome your compulsive ways.
